Three people nabbed in murder of UMS student

            KOTA KINABALU: Police have nabbed three key suspects in the murder of a 22-year-old Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) student whom they suspect could have been raped. Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said they arrested the trio, including a pirate taxi driver, to assist in investigations into the death of Sherliana Gediun.Sherliana, a final-year student at UMS, had left her home in northern Kota Marudu district on Aug 22 boarding a pirated taxi.She never reached the UMS campus and her family came to know of her “disappearance” only on Aug 24. Police recovered a badly decomposed body, believed to be that of Sherliana, in Tuaran on Aug 28.

            Noor Rashid said that the suspects, all locals, were arrested at separate locations in Tuaran and Kota Marudu by a police special task force set up to investigate the case.He said police were waiting for the medical report to determine if she was raped as well as DNA identification of the body.The case came just months after another UMS student was kidnapped and raped outside the campus. But she was rescued by police in interior Tambunan.Two local men were given lengthy sentences for the crime.

 

SUMMARY

            UMS student was died and the policeman believe that she is been raped before she died. Policeman have nabbed three suspect including a pirate taxi driver because the victim had left her home by that pirate taxi and never reached at UMS campus.

MERDEKA ‘FEAST’ FOR WASHINGTON AT MALAYSIAN EMBASSY

 

            WASHINGTON, Wed: It was as if the Merdeka celebrations had come early to Washington, DC. Last Tuesday, the Malaysian embassy here was transformed into a “medan selera”. Washingtonians lucky to be invited to the party were treated to a sumptuous array of curry laksa, nasi lemak, and roti canai with teh tarik and air batu campur flowing all night long.

 

            “Malaysia: The Truly Asian Kitchen”, hosted by the Charge d’Affaires, Ilango Karuppannan and his wife, Nirmala, began with the thunderous clap of the kompang by embassy staff and family members, followed by a cultural performance by “Sutera Malaysia”. Washingtonians who turned up were not disappointed as they were entertained to a grand feast of Malaysian food by renowned Malaysian-owned restaurants in the nation’s capital — Kopitiam Restaurant, Penang Bethesda Restaurant, Spices, and Banana Leaves Restaurant.

It was not only the food. Tourism Malaysia officials came with brochures and postcards promoting Malaysia’s tourist attractions.

            Embassy staff and their spouses, ARMED with their warm smiles and gracious hospitality, helped out at the various food stalls, making it a memorable event for Washingtonians in the summer. This is the second time that the embassy hosted such an event. Organiser Joe Ghazzal expected 4.5 million visitors to come here to see the shows compared with three million visitors last year.

300 people escaped serious injuries October 17, 2008

KUALA LUMPUR: About 300 people escaped serious injuries in an accident involving two Light Rail Transit (LRT) trains at 6.30pm at the Bukit Jalil station.

                Cheras district police chief ACP Ahmad Amir Mohd Hashim said a coach from Sungai Besi stopped suddenly about 200m from the train station before it was rammed into by another train from the rear on the same track. RapidKL executive Suffian Baharuddin confirmed that six passengers were slightly injured. He also said the train services would resume as normal today. RapidKL communications division general manager Ebi Azly Abdullah said the company would bear the medical costs for the injured passengers.

            Transport Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat, who visited the accident site and one of the injured passengers at the hospital later at night, said he would wait for the reports from investigations into the incident.“I’m relieved to see that the injured passengers were given immediate attention and treatment as they were immediately brought to the hospital,” he said.Road traffic safety officer R. Perumal, 48, who was in the moving train, said that everyone fell off their seats on impact.“Everybody started panicking and some contacted their loved ones on their handphones,” said Perumal, who suffered a whiplash when he hit against handle bars.

            Airline customer service officer Andrews Pillai, 42, who was trapped along with the other passengers for about 20 minutes in the stationary train, pushed the emergency door lever to get out.“A few men and myself helped other passengers out and we walked along the tracks back to the Bukit Jalil station,” he said.

SUMMARY

 

            There are an accident involving two  Light Rail Transit (LRT) train at 6.30pm at the Bukit Jalil Station .In this accident, about 300 people suffer serious injuries. The person in charge confirmed that six passengers were slightly injured. They also said the company would bear the medical costs for the injured passengers.

Maxis hosts open house

 

JITRA: More than 1,000 Maxis customers in Kedah enjoyed a special Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house with Akademi Fantasia (AF) stars, Mawi (AF3 winner) and Stacy (AF6 winner) in Dewan Wawasan last Saturday.  The open house was organised by Maxis Communications Bhd, via its prepaid brand, Hotlink. Mawi performed three songs including the emotional Ayah Aku Rindu Padamu. Stacy, meanwhile, sang Raya Datang Lagi and a Saloma’s classic, Darah Muda. Maxis general manager and head of segment marketing, Rozalila Abdul Rahman, said Kedah customers who topped up their prepaid lines, or those who signed up for postpaid value plans or supplementary lines from Sept 27 to Oct 7, were rewarded with invitations to the event. Similar events will be held in Dewan Saadah in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and Dewan Jubli Perak in Kota Baru, Kelantan on Oct 19 and 25 respectively.

PMR candidate dies in accident

ALOR STAR: A Form Three student sitting for Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination was rammed by a lorry, in a hit-and-run accident at Batu 5, Jalan Langgar here on Monday. Mohamad Asyraf Mohamad, 15, who was riding a motorcycle died in the 7.40pm incident. His cousin, Mohd Shahrul Naim Malim Nawar, 17, who was riding pillion, sustained minor injuries on his arm and body. The two teenagers were on their way to a petrol kiosk, 200 metres from the accident spot, from their house in Kampung Alor Jawi here. The motorcycle skidded and Asyraf was thrown to the middle of the road before a lorry carrying timber rammed into him. A Kota Star district traffic police spokesman said the SMK Langgar student was riding without a licence. Summary One of the form 3 student SMK Langgar was dead after rammed by a lorry on Monday who sitting for Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination this year. The victim and his cousin, who riding pillion were on the way to the petrol kiosk before accident. This accident happen when the motorcycle was skidded before the victim rammed by a lorry. However, his cousin only gets a minor injured on his arm and body. Police was said that this student riding without a license.

Man strangles wife, hangs himself

 

KUALA LANGAT: A tow-truck operator is believed to have strangled his wife before hanging himself from the staircase of their home yesterday. The bodies of R. Gunachandran, 24, and his wife, identified only as Rina, in her 20s, were found in a house in Teluk Benut, near Banting, about 9am. Kuala Langat district police chief Supt Mohamad Radzi Ishak said the couple had been renting the house for about a month. Neighbours had heard them arguing constantly.
He said a kindergarten teacher who had befriended Rina had found the bodies. The teacher often met the victim while walking to her kindergarten.  “She found the door of the house open and discovered Rina’s body in the hall and Gunachandran’s hanging body.”

This incident was happening went the husband determine strangled his wife before hanging himself at the staircase their house, report a tow-truck. These coupled was rent this house about a month. Before this incident, their neighbor heard that the coupled was arguing each other. The 2 body was found by a kindergarten teacher who was the friend of the coupled.
