JERANTUT: The state Tourism Action Council will allocate RM550,000 to upgrade public facilities in Taman Negara, Kuala Tahan, near here.
State Culture, Arts, Tourism and Heritage Committee chairman Shafik Fauzan Sharif said the state was aware of the lack of parking bays and the poor level of cleanliness in the area.
He said that many visitors had expressed unhappiness over the matter.
“We have identified a site for conversion into a parking bay for cars and buses.
“A committee will be set up together with the Taman Negara Tour Operators Association to monitor cleanliness in the vicinity.
“The fact that Taman Negara is not under the jurisdiction of the local authority makes it difficult to monitor the surroundings,” he said here recently.
Shafik said that 27 tour operators had agreed to take turns in overseeing cleanliness.
He said the council had conducted a course to assist the operators in sprucing up the area.
“The private sector can assist in gotong royongs as part of their social responsibility.
“They can adopt and maintain certain areas under the green environment concept,” he said.
Shafik said that members of the public could play a role by not throwing rubbish indiscriminately.
He said that they must change their attitude and treat the environment as their home.
